Maternal-Fetal Medicine specialists are high-risk pregnancy experts. They act both as a consultant during lower-risk pregnancies and as the primary obstetrician in especially high-risk pregnancies. For pregnant women with chronic health problems, MFMs work to keep the woman as healthy as possible while her body changes and her baby grows. They also care for women who face unexpected problems that develop during pregnancy, such as early labor, bleeding, or high blood pressure.
