Pulmonology

Pulmonology is a field of medicine that focuses on the health of the respiratory system and addresses disorders of the lungs, airways, and respiratory muscles. Pulmonologists can treat a variety of conditions:

• Asthma
• Bronchiectasis (walls of the bronchi are thickened from inflammation and infection)
• Bronchitis (bronchial tubes, that are infected and swollen)
• Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
• Emphysema (when lung alveoli are damaged)
• Interstitial lung diseases (affect space and tissue around alveoli)
• Occupational lung diseases (due to inhalation of dust, chemicals or proteins)
• Obstructive sleep apnea (breathing slows or stops entirely during sleep)
